Boredom-Inducing Apes on MTV
The NFT scene is making its way into MTV.
This Sunday, at the MTV Video Music Awards, hip-hop megastars Eminem and Snoop Dogg are scheduled to perform a live show with an Otherside-themed theme.
The performance, which is being developed in collaboration with Yuga Labs and has been described as “one-of-a-kind” in the press release, It is anticipated that the stage would be redesigned so that it reflects the NFTs and metaverse look of the design studio. The announcement indicates that this will be the first time ever that an award show has a performance that is inspired by the metaverse.
Yuga Labs, the business that is responsible for the widely known Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) NFT collection, is the creator of the realm known as the Otherside metaverse. The initiative was first presented to the public in April 2021, and it quickly gained support from notable figures, including Paris Hilton, Jimmy Fallon, and Justin Bieber. In May, their price reached its all-time high of over $435,000; on OpenSea, the least expensive pieces of the collection are currently trading for 77 ETH, which is equivalent to approximately $130,900. They were first sold for approximately $200.
Snoop Dogg and Eminem will be singing “From The D 2 The LBC,” a rap collaboration that they released in June and is nominated for the award for Best Hip Hop at the upcoming Grammy Awards. Both artists purchased their own Bored Apes at the beginning of the year. The song video, which presently has over 46 million views, prominently incorporates animation that is centered to BAYC.
The Mutant Apes, the Otherdeeds land plots, and ApeCoin, the cryptocurrency that serves as both a utility token and a governance token for the ecosystem, are some of the additional components that make up the Otherside metaverse. In addition, a video game titled Otherside is now being developed, as is a film anthology titled Bored Apes focusing on three short films. Recently, the high-end fashion brand Gucci made the announcement that some of its outlets in the United States will now accept ApeCoin as a form of payment.
